Jatiwaringin landfill fire enters 7th day, 45% contained

Twenty-eight residents remain displaced as 300 personnel, 3 helicopters and heavy equipment battle a fire burning beneath the landfill.

The fire at the Jatiwaringin landfill in Sepatan district, Tangerang regency, Banten, was still burning on Monday (6/7), with only 45 percent of the 14-hectare burn area brought under control. Thick smoke continued to cover the surrounding area, and 28 residents remained displaced at the Tanjakan Mekar village office. BNPB said 300 joint personnel were deployed, backed by 19 fire trucks, 4 water tankers, 8 excavators, 8 bulldozers, 3 water-bombing helicopters and 2 monitoring drones. Crews divided the firefighting area into northern, central and southern sectors. BNPB said the fire was burning inside piles of trash, so firefighters were using surface spraying, water injection into the waste pile and aerial water bombing.
