Fire at Tebet boarding house kills 4, injures 1
Fire officials suspect the blaze started in a photocopy machine room after an electrical fault in the 1,200-square-meter building.
A fire at a boarding house and photocopy shop on Jalan Rasamala II RT 09/RW 1, Menteng Dalam, Tebet, South Jakarta, killed four people and injured one on Monday morning. The South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency received the report at 03.20 WIB and deployed 86 personnel. Firefighters later extinguished the blaze and declared the response status green. South Jakarta Gulkarmat chief Asril Rizal said the preliminary suspicion was an electrical incident. A witness first heard cries of fire from the neighboring boarding house, then saw smoke enter a room. Residents evacuated to safety. The fire was believed to have started in the lower part of the photocopy machine room. The dead were identified as RA (68), SH (77), RPW (40), and an unidentified male boarding house resident. One injured victim was identified as G (25).
