Land fire in Kertapati threatens dense Palembang neighborhood
Residents fled the smoke as strong winds and limited water hampered efforts to contain the blaze.
A land fire in Kemas Rindo, Kertapati, Palembang, South Sumatera, on Saturday (8/8), threatened dense residential areas nearby. Thick smoke moved into the neighborhood, prompting some residents to run away to avoid it. Officers and residents worked to extinguish the fire so the blaze would not spread further into the settlement. However, strong winds made the flames and smoke harder to control. Limited water sources at the scene also slowed firefighting efforts. Antara photos showed residents helping near the burned area as smoke surrounded the neighborhood.
