K-SIGN Rote Ndao ready for production, 2027 salt self-sufficiency sped up
Phase I covering 616 hectares is complete, while Phase II covering 751 hectares is being accelerated through land acquisition.
The government is accelerating development of the Kawasan Sentra Industri Garam Nasional (K-SIGN) in Rote Ndao, Nusa Tenggara Timur, to support the target of salt self-sufficiency in 2027. The area, initiated by the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, is said to be ready to enter the production phase and is projected to become Indonesia's largest industrial salt center. Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said productivity could reach 200 tons per hectare per year. On a visit on Thursday, July 30, 2026, Menko Pangan Zulkifli Hasan inspected the project with Minister of Villages Yandri Susanto. Phase I, covering 616 hectares, has been completed, while Phase II, covering 751 hectares, is being accelerated through land acquisition and supporting infrastructure development, bringing the total area to 1,367 hectares.
