Judge weighs bid to unseal warrant in FBI search of Omar home

What's next: The Justice Department was ordered to justify keeping the warrant sealed after requests from The New York Times, Judicial Watch and other outlets.

A federal judge in Washington is handling a fight over whether to unseal the warrant used in the FBI and Homeland Security Investigations search of Rep. Ilhan Omar’s home. Chief Judge James Boasberg ordered the Justice Department to defend its position on keeping the records sealed after requests from The New York Times, Judicial Watch and 14 press organizations. Fox News reported the search took place Oct. 12 at Omar’s Washington home. The dispute comes as federal investigators examine discrepancies in financial disclosures filed a year apart and allegations tied to immigration paperwork completed by Omar’s father in 2000. The warrant was issued by U.S. Magistrate Judge Matthew Sharbaugh.
