Judge pauses BBC bid for Trump records in $10 billion lawsuit

What's next: The court still must decide whether Trump can narrow the case to personal reputational harm and avoid broad financial discovery.

A federal judge in Miami on Thursday temporarily blocked the BBC from obtaining detailed financial and ownership records tied to President Donald Trump's $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the broadcaster. The emergency stay paused a deadline for the Donald J. Trump Revocable Trust to produce tax returns, financial statements and records for about 400 corporate entities. Trump sued over a 2024 BBC Panorama documentary about Jan. 6 that the network says mistakenly edited his speech to imply a direct call for violence. The BBC argues Trump's claims that the program damaged his brand and businesses put his finances at issue. Trump is also seeking to revise the lawsuit so it focuses only on alleged personal reputational injury.
