Judge orders Trump to give Dec. 11 deposition in $10 billion BBC suit

A federal judge in Miami ordered President Donald Trump to sit for a deposition by Dec. 11 in his $10 billion defamation lawsuit against the BBC. The case centers on a Panorama documentary that used edited clips from Trump’s Jan. 6, 2021 speech, which Trump says falsely made it appear he urged supporters to attack the US Capitol. US Magistrate Judge Enjoliqué Lett set the deadline after the BBC complained Trump canceled an earlier Oct. 16 deposition and had not turned over requested records. Trump’s lawyers said presidential duties and security needs should take priority and proposed dates in January. The BBC has apologized for the edit but argues the program does not meet the legal standard for defamation.
