Judge orders Trump’s name removed from Kennedy Center
A federal judge said the Kennedy Center cannot be renamed without Congress and ordered Donald Trump’s name removed within 14 days.
A federal judge in Washington ordered the Kennedy Center to remove President Donald Trump’s name from the performing arts complex within 14 days, ruling that only Congress can change the institution’s formal name. Judge Christopher Cooper also blocked, for now, a planned two-year closure for renovations, saying the board had not properly weighed its obligations. The dispute stems from actions taken after Trump replaced several trustees, joined the board and became its chairman. Rep. Joyce Beatty, an Ohio Democrat and former ex officio trustee, sued over the renaming, the closure plan and the loss of her voting rights. A Kennedy Center spokeswoman said the center would appeal.
