Judge orders release of Trump’s $5.8 million Carroll payment

What’s next: E. Jean Carroll is set to receive the 2023 judgment plus interest after the Supreme Court declined Trump’s appeal.

A federal judge in New York ordered court officials on Wednesday to release more than $5.8 million to E. Jean Carroll, including interest on the $5 million judgment a jury awarded her in 2023. Judge Lewis Kaplan directed the transfer from a court-controlled account where Donald Trump had deposited the money while he appealed. The Supreme Court last month declined to hear Trump’s appeal of the verdict, which found him liable for sexually abusing Carroll in the mid-1990s at Bergdorf Goodman in Manhattan and for defaming her in a 2022 Truth Social post. Trump’s lawyers filed notice Wednesday that they plan another appeal. A separate $83 million Carroll defamation award remains under appeal.
