Judge halts noncitizen voter inquiries in 9 states until polls close

What's new: The order found the data driving the inquiries was error-filled and risked intimidating voter-assistance groups.

A federal judge in California ordered the Trump administration to stop investigating whether noncitizens are registered to vote in nine states until polls close on Nov. 3. U.S. District Judge Araceli Martinez-Olguin in Oakland ruled Wednesday that the effort relied on data “full of errors” and was causing intimidation of groups that help people vote. She paused her order until Friday to give the administration time to appeal. The ruling covers California, Connecticut, Georgia, Missouri, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Washington and Wisconsin. The lawsuit was brought by the California Nurses Association, National Nurses United, the Voto Latino Foundation, San Francisco and Santa Clara County.
