Judge blocks DOJ bid for names of Fulton County 2020 election workers

Why it matters: The ruling said any crime tied to the 2020 election is likely time-barred, undercutting the practical value of the probe.

A federal judge in Atlanta on Tuesday quashed a Justice Department subpoena that sought the names and personal contact information of every Fulton County employee and volunteer poll worker involved in Georgia’s 2020 election. U.S. District Judge William Ray called the request unreasonable, saying the government’s need was low and the burden of disclosure was high. Fulton County had argued the subpoena was overly broad and could intimidate election workers. Ray also wrote that even if investigators found people who backed claims the election was unfair, the information could not support charges because the statute of limitations for any possible 2020 election crimes had expired.
