Jorge Messi, Lionel Messi’s father, dies in Rosario at 68
Jorge had been under long-term medical care, and it is unclear whether Lionel will play for Inter Miami this weekend.
Jorge Messi, the father and former agent of Lionel Messi, died Friday night local time at a clinic in Rosario, Argentina, at age 68 after a long illness. In recent months, he had alternated treatment between a medical center and home, surrounded by his wife Celia Cuccittini and their children Rodrigo, Matias and Maria Sol. Jorge played a major role in Lionel’s career from his early days at Newell's Old Boys through his move to Barcelona, then served for years as his representative. Lionel had spent time with his father after the World Cup before returning to Inter Miami. Newell's Old Boys, Barcelona and the Argentine Football Association also expressed condolences.
