Jokowi calls Gibran diploma issue a political operation in Solo
He said the attacks could target both himself and Gibran, as party backing for the 2029 presidential race remains unsettled.
Former Indonesian president Joko Widodo described the diploma controversy involving Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka as a political operation driven by “penumpang gelap.” Speaking at his residence in Sumber, Solo, Central Java, on Friday (16/10), Jokowi said the issue was deliberately circulated to damage political reputations. He said the attacks could be aimed at him or at Gibran. Jokowi added that he was not overly concerned by accusations directed at his family. In the same remarks, he responded to PAN, PKB and Golkar, which have not firmly backed Gibran for Pemilu 2029. Jokowi said the choice of support is each party’s constitutional right and should not be interfered with.
