Sukhoi fighter jet skids off runway at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport
Flights kept using Runway 03-21 while crews worked to evacuate and secure the jet on Runway 13.
A Sukhoi fighter jet belonging to the TNI Angkatan Udara skidded off the west side of the runway, or Runway 13, at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Maros regency, South Sulawesi, on Monday (24/8). Video of the aircraft stopped near the base fence spread widely on social media and was recorded by residents from the Maros-Makassar main road. PGS Branch Communication & CSR Department Head of Sultan Hasanuddin Airport, Taufan Yudhistira, confirmed the incident and said handling was being carried out together with TNI AU. Airport operations were said to continue normally because flights were diverted to the north-south runway, Runway 03-21. As of publication, TNI AU had not issued an official explanation for the cause or full chronology of the incident.
