Japan routs Tunisia 4-0, sends rival out of Group F

Japan moved to second place with four points, while Tunisia joined Turkey and Haiti in being eliminated before the group stage ended.

Japan cruised to a 4-0 victory over Tunisia in the second match of Group F at the 2026 World Cup at Monterrey Stadium in Guadalupe, Mexico, on Saturday local time, eliminating its opponent from the tournament. Daichi Kamada opened the scoring in the fourth minute, and Ayase Ueda added two goals in the 31st and 84th minutes. One more came from Junya Ito in the 69th minute. Hajime Moriyasu's team controlled the match despite the absence of injured Takefusa Kubo. Japan dictated play for most of the game, while changes made by Tunisia coach Herve Renard after halftime did not alter the outcome. Ueda was the key figure with two goals and one assist. The win was Japan's first at the 2026 World Cup and lifted it to second in Group F with four points, behind the Netherlands on goal difference. Japan will face Sweden in Dallas in its final group match, while the Netherlands meet Tunisia in Kansas City.
