Jamus Lim pushes back after Wong attacks WP policy shifts
What's new: Lim argued policy reversals can reflect learning, and disputed Wong's examples on housing and foreign-worker rules.
Workers' Party lawmaker Jamus Lim rebuked Prime Minister Lawrence Wong after Wong accused the opposition of shifting with the “political winds” on key policies. In a social media post on Oct. 25, Lim said changing a stance after getting it wrong showed “wisdom and maturity,” not opportunism, and called Wong's criticism a double standard. Wong, speaking at the PAP's biennial conference, had argued the ruling party must balance trade-offs and resist populist promises. He cited the WP's past and current positions on HDB flat supply and foreign manpower as inconsistent. Lim countered that the party's housing stance addressed long-term lease decay, while its foreign labor position focused on the pace of inflows and strain on infrastructure, not opposition to migrant workers itself.
