Jambi air turns hazardous as wildfire smoke reaches Malaysia

KLH air quality index placed Kota Jambi, Muaro Jambi and Tebo in the hazardous category on 10 October.

Haze from forest and land fires thickened in Jambi on Saturday, 10 October, driving air quality in several areas into the hazardous category. Data from the Air Pollution Standard Index of the Ministry of Environment showed Kota Jambi, Muaro Jambi and Tebo at hazardous levels. Antara photos showed smoke blanketing Pasar Jambi, the Batanghari River and the area around Jembatan Makalam. At the same time, CNN Indonesia reported that people in Malaysia were still breathing smoke from forest and land fires in Indonesia. The development shows the impact of the fires is no longer limited to the burn sites, but has spread across regions to a neighboring country.
