Agam-Bukittinggi provincial road collapses, cars blocked
Two main access routes to Palembayan are now closed to four-wheeled vehicles, with no alternate route available yet.
Part of the provincial road linking Kabupaten Agam and Kota Bukittinggi collapsed after heavy rain hit Nagari Salareh Aia, Kecamatan Palembayan, on Wednesday (24/6) afternoon. Damage in the Labuah Sampiak area, Jorong Gunggun, has prevented four-wheeled vehicles from passing; only motorcycles can use the route. Agam Police Chief AKBP Muari said the road surface gave way to a depth of about 15 meters. The road is a main route connecting Padang Koto Gadang with several districts in Agam and Bukittinggi. The district ring road from Koto Alam to Lubuk Basung via Batu Kambing is also still impassable for cars, leaving no alternative for now. The Kabupaten Agam government, residents and the Pemprov Sumbar are being urged to speed up drainage work and road repairs.
