Jakarta ranks second-worst globally for air quality, AQI 175

Jakarta’s air quality on Wednesday morning ranked second-worst in the world in IQAir’s list at 05:00 WIB, with an air quality index, or AQI, of 175. PM2.5 concentration was recorded at 88.5 micrograms per cubic meter, putting the capital’s air in the unhealthy category. Residents were advised to avoid outdoor activities and wear masks if they must be outside. In the same list, Lahore in Pakistan ranked first with an AQI of 382, followed by Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo at 163 and Santiago, Chile, at 153. The DKI Jakarta provincial government is preparing to expand Transjabodetabek routes, target 10,000 Transjakarta electric buses by 2030, and speed up ITF projects in Sunter, Rorotan, Bantargebang, and West Jakarta to curb emissions.
