Israeli settlers burn cars, try to torch mosque in Ramallah

The Burqa and Deir Dibwan attacks came amid rising settler violence that the United Nations says averages six incidents a day.

A group of Israeli settlers attacked two villages east of Ramallah on Sunday night, burning vehicles and trying to set a mosque on fire. In Burqa village, a parked car near Al-Nour Mosque was burned out. The head of the Burqa village council said the attackers broke into the mosque, set fire to the entrance, then tried to ignite the building before residents put out the flames. Shortly before that, a similar attack took place in Deir Dibwan, also east of Ramallah, leaving two vehicles burned and two others damaged. Other reports cited by media said dozens of masked settlers also damaged homes and set farmland ablaze around the area. The United Nations has warned that settler violence in the West Bank now averages six attacks a day.
