Israeli strikes hit the area around Jabal Amel Hospital in Tyre, southern Lebanon, on Monday, killing several people and injuring 23 others, according to local media cited by CNN Indonesia. The attack struck a residential building and a parking area near the hospital. It also damaged the hospital complex and knocked out electricity in the intensive care unit. The New York Times reported the strike came as Lebanese and Israeli officials met in Washington for a new round of U.S.-mediated talks on ending the war in Lebanon. Israel has also signaled it wants a “security zone” in southern Lebanon stretching to the Litani River, a plan that would cover about 10% of Lebanese territory.
