Israel moves to lock down West Bank after 5 wounded near Hebron
What's next: Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a cordon on Hebron and broader restrictions ahead of an election in four days.
Israeli forces killed two suspected Palestinian attackers after a shooting at a checkpoint near Hebron wounded five Israelis, two of them critically, officials said Friday. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu then ordered an immediate cordon on Hebron and told the military to prepare a full lockdown across the occupied West Bank later in the day. The military said soldiers responded after gunmen opened fire near the Judea Junction area and found a large amount of ammunition in the attackers' vehicle. It also launched raids in the Hebron area. The attack came amid already high tensions in the West Bank and just days before Israel's election.
