Israel clears legal path for crocodile moat prison

Israel has cleared the legal way to use crocodiles at prison facilities holding Palestinians. Channel 7 Israel, cited by Anadolu Agency, reported that Environment Protection Minister Idit Silman signed an order changing crocodiles' status to "managed wild animals." The change allows government bodies, including the Israel Prison Service, to keep crocodiles under certain conditions. Previously, crocodiles were classified as protected wildlife and could only be kept in licensed zoos. The idea came from National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir about six months ago: building a high-security prison with a crocodile-filled moat to prevent Palestinian prisoners from escaping. According to the same report, the prison service has reviewed the project's feasibility and visited zoos to study crocodile care.
