Iran war drags on 6 months, raising GOP fears for November

Why it matters: Strategists warn high gas prices, inflation and falling approval ratings could cost Republicans both chambers of Congress.

Six months into the U.S. war with Iran, Republican strategists are increasingly worried the conflict could damage the party in November’s midterm elections. President Donald Trump had predicted the war would last four to five weeks, but the fighting has continued as energy-market disruptions pushed up gas prices and added to inflation. Polls cited in the report show voters have grown more frustrated with the war and with Trump’s handling of it, eroding support for Republican candidates. Some forecasters now see Republicans at risk of losing both the House and Senate, which would threaten Trump’s legislative agenda and open the door to Democratic-led investigations next year.
