Iran threatens retaliation after U.S. strikes over 80 targets in south

The risk of shipping disruption and oil export losses rises as Iran rejects U.S. intervention in the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran threatened to retaliate for the latest U.S. strikes in southern Iran after CENTCOM said it had completed operations against more than 80 targets. Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said Iran’s military would deliver a "devastating" response and رفض U.S. interference in the management of the Strait of Hormuz. According to CENTCOM, the strikes were carried out in response to the targeting of three commercial vessels in the strait. Iranian state media reported explosions on Qeshm Island, Sirik Port, Bandar Abbas and Kharg Island, a vital hub that handles about 90 percent of Iran’s crude oil exports. Iran’s Foreign Ministry also accused Washington of violating the June 18 memorandum of understanding and revoking oil sanctions waivers while the ceasefire remained in effect.
