Iran denies talks with US as Trump claims dialogue advances

Tehran says it has only received messages through mediators and that talks with Oman on the Strait of Hormuz do not involve Washington.

Iran denied it is negotiating with the United States, days after President Donald Trump said dialogue with Tehran was underway and showing progress. Speaking aboard Air Force One while traveling to Michigan on Monday (27/7), Trump said the two sides were holding good talks and hinted at possible developments. But Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said Iran is not engaged in any negotiations with Washington. He said mediators have only relayed messages from the American side about recent developments in the region. Baghaei also rejected claims that Iran had requested talks, and said Iran's latest discussions with Oman on arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz are strictly bilateral and remain ongoing.
