Iran and Oman form joint committee to manage Strait of Hormuz

The sides are also negotiating navigation service standards and ship fees, amid a 60-day deadline after a memorandum with the US.

Iran and Oman formed a joint committee to continue talks on arrangements for the Strait of Hormuz after the Iranian delegation met in Muscat. Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, the speaker of Iran’s parliament and chief negotiator, said details of the committee would be included in a joint statement. According to the joint statement, as quoted by media, the discussions covered future navigation management, services provided and related fees in line with international standards. The Muscat meeting involved Abbas Araghchi, Sultan Oman Haitham bin Tariq and Oman Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi. The issue emerged after Iran and the United States signed a memorandum last week setting out an end to the conflict and the restoration of shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
