Indonesia, Korea Selatan Discuss Next Phase of KF-21 Jet Project
The joint development phase is said to be complete, while options for co-production or direct purchase remain under discussion.
Indonesia and Korea Selatan are still discussing the next form of cooperation on the KF-21 Boramae fighter jet project after the joint development phase was declared complete. Political Section Chief of the Korean Embassy Uhm Taeho said no final decision has been made on the next scheme, amid reports that Indonesia may not join co-production and instead choose a direct purchase. He said the defense and foreign ministries of both countries are now negotiating to deepen cooperation. Uhm said the project had faced obstacles, especially over financing and shifting priorities in each country, but those hurdles were resolved through mutual agreement. From Indonesia's side, Vahd Nabyl Achmad Mulachela said the main objective of the development partnership had been achieved even though Jakarta and Seoul's priorities shifted during the process.
