Indonesia continues importing 150 million barrels of Russian oil through 2026
The government is also pursuing supplies from Nigeria, Angola and the United States to protect stocks as the Middle East remains unstable.
The government is continuing its process of importing crude oil from Russia even as shipping lanes in the Strait of Hormuz are said to be reopening. Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources spokesperson Dwi Anggia said the move is still under way as part of efforts to strengthen national energy reserves, following President Prabowo Subianto’s direction in Presidential Regulation No. 26 Tahun 2026. The ministry has also authorized business entities such as Lemigas to carry out imports. In addition to Russia, Indonesia is preparing supplies from Nigeria, Angola and the United States as a diversification strategy amid a Middle East situation that remains fluid. Earlier, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Bahlil Lahadalia tasked Lemigas with realizing the commitment to import 150 million barrels of oil from Russia in stages through the end of 2026.
