Indonesia brings environmentally focused energy transition agenda to London

New: the government is placing tropical forests, peatlands and mangroves at the center of Indonesia's position at GETES 2026.

Indonesia brought its position that the energy transition must advance alongside environmental protection to the Global Electrification and Transition Energy Summit (GETES) 2026 in London, England, on Tuesday (23/6). Environment Minister Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat said development steps must continue to follow strict environmental standards so they align with national climate commitments. In the ministerial and CEO dialogue, he stressed that Indonesia's tropical forests, peatlands and mangrove ecosystems are important pillars of global climate-change mitigation. The stance aligns with U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres' call for the energy transition to be accelerated in a fair, inclusive way and to deliver concrete benefits, including job creation.
