Indonesia buys 12 light combat jets from Italy
Deliveries are expected to start in 2030, with training, maintenance, overhaul and localized support included.
The Defense Ministry signed a contract to buy 12 multirole light fighter aircraft Leonardo M-346F Block 20 from Italy for the Indonesian Air Force. The contract was signed between Leonardo and PT ESystem Solutions Indonesia, following a Letter of Intent announced in February 2026. According to Brigjen Rico Ricardo Sirait, head of information at the Defense Ministry secretariat, the aircraft are intended for advanced pilot training while also supporting operational readiness, especially to help pilots adapt more quickly to modern aircraft. Leonardo said deliveries are expected to begin in 2030. The package also includes maintenance support, overhaul, training, human resources development and localization of support capabilities. The Defense Ministry also stressed that the M-346F will not replace the 42 Rafale made by Dassault Aviation, but will complement existing platforms.
