Indiana flooding death toll rises to 6 after record rains

At least six people have died after days of storms and record flooding across Indiana, with the White River cresting in Indianapolis and nearby communities after torrential rain. State officials said a 4-year-old boy, two men and three women were among the dead since the storms began Aug. 11. The National Weather Service reported that some areas got more than 11 inches of rain in two days, sending rivers to historic levels. In Indianapolis, Mayor Joe Hogsett called it the city's worst flooding in more than 30 years as hundreds of homes were evacuated. Fire crews had rescued 95 people and 45 pets by late Saturday. More than a dozen counties declared local disasters, and Gov. Mike Braun said federal resources were expected to support response and recovery.
