India Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned after a wave of student and youth protests over a scandal involving a college entrance exam leak. He sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday as police fired tear gas to disperse crowds in New Delhi. The main demonstrations centered at Jantar Mantar and Parliament Street, with protests also taking place in Srinagar, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Pune. Public anger was triggered by the May leak, which led to the cancellation of exam results and an order for retesting for 2 million young people. The movement is being led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), or the Cockroach Party, with demands for broader education reform.
