Images place Talarico at Austin home during 9-day campaign gap
What's new: The New York Times reviewed time-stamped security footage that undercuts a viral claim the Texas Senate candidate was in an Ohio treatment center.
Time-stamped security camera images reviewed by The New York Times place Texas Democratic Senate nominee James Talarico at his Austin home between Oct. 1 and Oct. 8, countering a viral rumor that he spent the stretch at an Ohio behavioral health center. Talarico’s campaign had said he was recovering from the flu during the nine-day absence from in-person events. The report has also stirred new criticism of the campaign’s handling of the episode, because the images were not shared sooner as speculation spread online. The Times said the campaign provided the footage on condition that it not be published for security reasons. Talarico had appeared virtually at a Sept. 30 event while visibly ill.
