Illinois teen charged in alleged plot to attack Hindu temple

A 19-year-old Illinois man was charged after police said they disrupted an alleged plan for a mass shooting that may have targeted a Hindu temple in the Aurora area. Alexandros Paporakis of Palatine appeared in court Wednesday on one count of making a terrorist threat and one count of unlawful possession of a weapon. Palatine police said officers arrested him Sunday after receiving reports of troubling electronic messages and a document laying out an attack plan. Investigators said a search of his home turned up a rifle, loaded magazines, hundreds of rounds of ammunition, body armor and tactical gear. Detectives also reviewed a document titled "Why I Fought," which police said expressed white supremacist ideology and hostility toward South Asians, especially people of Indian descent. Authorities said the exact target has not been confirmed and the investigation remains open.
