ICE agents shot Bronx man in car with 5-year-old in back seat

What's new: Body camera video was released, and New York's governor pressed for all footage as outrage spread over the arrest attempt.

ICE agents shot 28-year-old Oscar Belgal during an arrest attempt in the Bronx on Thursday while his 5-year-old son was in the back seat of the car, setting off protests and sharp criticism from New York officials. Federal authorities said Belgal, whom DHS described as a Dominican national with prior arrests and a grand larceny conviction, tried to ram officers with the vehicle as they moved to detain him. PBS reported agents fired at least seven rounds and Belgal was hit in the neck before being taken to a hospital. The child was not hurt. Mayor Zohran Mamdani called the shooting unconscionable, and Gov. Kathy Hochul said she asked President Donald Trump to release body camera footage so the facts can be established.
