Houston grand jury indicts ICE officer in car strike that broke man's leg

What's new: Prosecutors charged Mario Alberto Morales with second-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and plan to seek his arrest.

A Harris County grand jury indicted Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer Mario Alberto Morales after prosecutors alleged he intentionally drove an unmarked vehicle into Miguel Parra Hernandez during a pursuit in Houston on Oct. 10. The charge is second-degree aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors said Parra Hernandez, a 48-year-old Mexican construction worker, suffered a broken leg and other fractures after being hit while running away. District Attorney Sean Teare said surveillance and body-camera video contradict ICE's account that Parra Hernandez stepped in front of the vehicle. ICE has called the case a political stunt and disputes that local officials can investigate a federal officer acting on duty.
