Home affairs minister urges more World Cup 2026 watch parties
Local governments are urged to open space for UMKM and food vendors during matches, while maintaining security and order.
Home Affairs Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian has asked regional governments to expand watch-party events for the 2026 World Cup. He delivered the appeal in Jakarta after meeting TVRI President Director Tb. Fiki Chikara Satari on Friday, saying the tournament can provide entertainment and stimulate local economies. Tito said public enthusiasm for international football is always high during the World Cup. He said economic activity can come from sales of jerseys and merchandise, watch parties and culinary businesses. He said events spread across the regions can help UMKM raise income, but organizers must still maintain security and order. The 2026 World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July, and TVRI has secured broadcast rights.
