HIPPINDO: Tall mall fences installed to manage visitor access

The retail group said the barriers were used at only one mall chain and have already been removed at several locations.

The Indonesian Shopping Center Tenants Association (HIPPINDO) said tall fences that briefly appeared at a number of shopping centers were installed to manage access and visitor flow, not because of a riot threat. HIPPINDO chairman Budihardjo Iduansjah said the barriers were put up by only one mall group, not by all malls. He said the partitions were used so visitors would not enter from multiple sides and so traffic toward parking areas would be more orderly. CNN Indonesia also reported that local governments have removed fences deemed inconsistent with permits. In Jakarta, an iron fence that had been installed in front of Kota Kasablanka on 3 August 2026 has now been dismantled.
