Hamas ready to disarm if Israel withdraws from Gaza
Hamas ties disarmament to a phased Israeli pullback, Gaza reconstruction and a national committee to implement the deal.
Hamas said it is ready to carry out an agreement to disarm in the Gaza Strip, but only if Israel withdraws its forces from the territory in stages. The group also demanded that mediators and the Peace Council ensure Israel complies with the deal. Hamas negotiating team member Ghazi Hamad said the concession was made to spare Gaza residents from killing and displacement. He added that disarmament would be linked to the withdrawal of Israeli troops, the formation of a National Committee and the reconstruction of Gaza. A day earlier, Donald Trump said the Peace Council had reached an agreement on the full disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups. In Cairo, Hamas and PIJ both stressed that the war must end and that Israel must leave Gaza completely.
