Hamas agrees to Gaza disarmament plan tied to Israeli pullout
What's new: Hamas officials said the deal links handing over weapons to a phased Israeli withdrawal and reconstruction in Gaza.
Hamas and the Trump-backed Board of Peace reached a deal for the complete disarmament of Hamas and other armed groups in Gaza, according to President Donald Trump and senior Hamas officials. Trump said the plan would roll out in phases, with Israeli forces leaving Gaza as disarmament moves forward and an International Stabilisation Force working with a new Palestinian police force to secure the territory. Hamas official Ghazi Hamad said the weapons issue is tied to Israel's withdrawal, the deployment of a National Committee and reconstruction. Israel had not publicly endorsed the terms, and an Israeli official said the proposal did not meet Jerusalem's demands.
