Halal certification required for food, cosmetics from Oct. 18, 2026
The mandate also covers food ingredients, health supplements, chemical products and certain consumer goods.
Indonesia’s halal certification requirement will take effect on Oct. 18, 2026, for a range of product groups, from food and beverages to cosmetics and health supplements. Badan Penyelenggara Jaminan Produk Halal (BPJPH) said the rule presents an opportunity for businesses to strengthen competitiveness and consumer trust. Under PP Nomor 42 Tahun 2024, the requirement applies to slaughtered products and slaughtering services, cosmetic products, chemical and genetic engineering products, herbal medicines, quasi-drugs, food raw materials and additives, and certain categories of consumer goods. BPJPH chief Ahmad Haikal Hasan urged businesses to prepare for certification early, saying they should view it not only as a compliance burden but as an investment to expand market access.
