Hack exposed data on 40,000-plus DHS staff, including ICE agents

What's new: The files included names, phone numbers, work addresses and some undercover and covert operation details.

A hacking group breached U.S. Department of Homeland Security personnel files and published identifying details for more than 40,000 employees, including thousands tied to immigration enforcement. The data posted Wednesday included names, phone numbers, work addresses and job descriptions for staff at U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, the Federal Protective Service and CISA. BBC and NPR reported the records were distributed through DDoSecrets in a database called Icepick after the group Department of Peace said it got in through Okta, DHS's single sign-on system. DHS said it was investigating a potential breach and taking steps to protect employees.
