Hack cripples cooling systems at hundreds of supermarkets in France
Temperatures in display cases rose to 50 degrees Celsius, fresh stock was discarded and losses were estimated at tens of millions of euros.
A cyberattack crippled cooling systems at hundreds of supermarkets in France and sent temperatures inside refrigerators and freezers soaring to 50 degrees Celsius. The disruption spoiled fresh food and frozen products, while some stores reported smoke or fire. Chains affected included Intermarché, Coopérative U, Carrefour, Monoprix and E.Leclerc. Les Mousquetaires, which owns Intermarché, said about 150 of its stores were affected for about six hours overnight, while Carrefour reported disruptions at about 80 outlets. The Paris prosecutor's office said the large-scale attack targeted internet-connected cooling systems. Thierry Cotillard said the nationwide losses could reach tens of millions of euros in just one day.
