Gunung Sumbing wildfire extinguished after burning 974 hectares
The affected area grew from 779.4 hectares, while planned water bombing was canceled because of bad weather.
The forest and land fire on Gunung Sumbing, Jawa Tengah, was reported extinguished after burning a total of 974 hectares in Wonosobo, Temanggung, and Magelang. KPH Kedu Utara administrator Dimyati said the three fire areas had been put out, but Perhutani, basecamp managers and volunteers were continuing monitoring and patrols. Previously, as of Friday (23/10), the fire was still active and the affected area was recorded at 779.4 hectares, with remaining hot spots in compartment 20-1 Temanggung and compartment 23 Wonosobo. Dry weather and strong winds accelerated the spread of the fire. Plans to extinguish it with water bombing had been prepared, but the helicopter did not drop water because conditions were not supportive.
