Government urges 7 steps to prevent violence in pesantren

The plan also calls for child protection teams, child-friendly complaint systems, and the involvement of parents and the community.

The government is urging pesantren to adopt seven steps to prevent violence against children and build a safe learning environment. The package was presented by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno in the National Movement for Safe and Comfortable Spaces for Children campaign during a discussion with Rabithah Ma'ahid Islamiyah PBNU and SAKA Pesantren PBNU in Yogyakarta, Friday, 17 July 2026. The seven steps proposed include evaluating protection systems and caregiver training, forming child protection teams, drafting child protection policies, and creating child-friendly complaint channels. Other steps include ongoing training, strengthening a culture of mutual vigilance, and involving parents and the community. Pratikno also said pesantren need to adapt to technological disruption and artificial intelligence without losing their cultural or spiritual identity.
