Government reinforces Enang-Enang Bridge, heavy trucks barred

Foundation and abutment reinforcements will begin this week, while a 300-meter permanent bridge is targeted for 2027.

The government has begun work on Jembatan Enang-Enang in Kampung Arul Cincin, Kabupaten Bener Meriah, Aceh, after residents first restored access on their own following the disaster. Muhammad Tito Karnavian, head of the post-disaster Sumatra PRR task force, said three steps were agreed: widening and repairing the Simpang Werlah alternate route, strengthening the existing bridge structure, and building a new permanent bridge. Jembatan Enang-Enang will remain in limited use because it is the fastest route for residents to the economic center, schools and public services, but heavy vehicles are still not allowed to cross. Zulkarnaini, acting head of BPJN Aceh, said the reinforcement will focus on the damaged foundation and abutment, with some materials already on site. The design for the permanent bridge, with a span of about 300 meters, will be completed in 2026, followed by physical construction planned for 2027.
