Gold tops $4,200 as traders weigh Ukraine truce and Saudi attack

What's new: Brent crude fell 1.2% after Trump said Russia would release diesel, while renewed Houthi strikes sharpened inflation fears.

Gold edged higher Monday, trading near $4,200 an ounce, as investors weighed President Donald Trump’s claim of an immediate Russia-Ukraine “energy ceasefire” against rising risks in the Middle East. Spot gold was up 0.3% at $4,206.86 an ounce in Singapore morning trade after gaining 1.3% last week. Benchmark Brent crude fell 1.2% after Trump said Moscow would release diesel to global markets, easing concerns about fuel supply. But renewed Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia’s main airport, a day after a strike there killed 12 people and injured more than 300, raised the prospect of wider regional conflict and higher energy costs that could keep monetary policy tight.
