Germany raises security posture to high threat level over attack risk
Why it matters: The shift means authorities now see a persistent risk to infrastructure, institutions and individuals across Germany.
Germany has raised its national security posture to a high threat level, with Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt warning that attacks must now be considered possible at any time. In an interview published Sunday in Welt am Sonntag, Dobrindt said intelligence and a rising number of reports pointed to clearly identifiable plans targeting Germany. He said the threat extended to infrastructure, public institutions and private individuals. The move comes after several deadly attacks in recent years, including the 2024 Magdeburg car-ramming that killed six people and a 2024 stabbing at a festival in Solingen that left three dead and 10 injured.
