Garuda changes baggage rules, business class gets up to 64 kg

The piece-based system applies to tickets issued from Sept. 1, 2026, while older tickets keep the previous rules.

Garuda Indonesia is changing its checked-baggage rules from a total weight system to a piece concept. The new policy applies to tickets issued from Sept. 1, 2026, for travel on or after that date. On domestic routes, economy passengers get one piece with a maximum of 23 kilograms, up from 20 kilograms. Business and first class passengers get two pieces, each up to 32 kilograms, or 64 kilograms in total. For international flights, economy passengers receive two pieces of 23 kilograms each, or 46 kilograms in total, while business and first class remain at two pieces of 32 kilograms each. Garuda Indonesia Transformation Director Neil Raymond Mills said the system is intended to make baggage rules clearer and align them with standards used by many international airlines.
